Hello Spring

It's that time of year when I go around singing "It's the most wonderful time of the year". There might not be bells ringing but there are sweet little white bells of snow drops and lily of the valley. There is such hope in the season, when from one day to the next the day turns from a bleak grey to vivid green. Perhaps I notice it more now that I've spent 6 seasons dependent upon the season changes and weather patterns. Funny how a change of career will make one notice things differently.
Flower farm life is in full swing. Planting of hardy annuals is complete. We expect some of these flowers to bloom mid-May. The tulips are in their full glory in all the spring colors of pink, purple, cream and yellows. Helleborus or Lenten Rose are abundant this year and the daffodils are close to finishing their bloom span already. Ranunculus, the sweet, frilly rose of spring is beginning to bud up. The anemone with their velvety center eyes is blooming in abundance after waiting all winter for their debut. Last but of course not least, the peony is starting to wake itself from its slumber.
Things begin to move pretty quickly as the weather warms. In no time the fields will be abundant with blooms for harvest. In the hustle to get things done I want to be sure to take time to savor the spring season because soon the heat of the south will be upon us.
Wishing you an abundant season in all you grow.
